The Broncos have won 4 in a row! All this team does is win!!! The Broncos won a thriller on Prime Time vs the Vikings 21-20 in exciting fashion. It feels like the Mile High magic is back in Denver. The game was not pretty by no means. The offense still has to be better finish drives especially when the defense gives them short fields. They kicked 5 field goals. Speaking of the defense though they were once again very opportunistic generating 3 takeaways in this game and making that 12 in the last 3 games. The run defense was once again not very good as they gave up 175 yards on the ground to a team that has not done anything on the ground all year. Watching the game the running defense seems to be more of a tackling issue rather than a schematic issue which hopefully they can correct at some point before it starts to hurt them.
I feel like this is the most impressive win in this streak because of how the game played out. Yes, it is even more impressive than the Chiefs win to me. In the Chiefs and Bills games, the Broncos were in the lead most of the game(except for the final 2 min in Buffalo) and were able to play keep away from Mahomes and Allen dominating time of possession and averaging 137 yards per game on the ground. I loved that the Broncos were able to dominate both these games but one question I had watching those games was how Denver would fare in a game where things don't go according to plan. This Sunday Night was a perfect example. The Broncos had only 46 yards rushing and lost the time of possession game 35 to 25. Th Vikings carried out an exceptional game plan stopping the run and forcing Russ to beat them. And he did! The Broncos scored a TD down 20-15 with 1 minute to go off a floater from Russ to Sutton who made an unbelievable catch and he is proving that he's Wide Receiver 1 on this team. Semaje Perine once again was clutch in the passing game on the final drive like he was vs the Bills. This team won a game that they had no business winning and that is what good teams do.
As a fan, you can see the culture change happening right in front of our eyes. This is a type of game that the Broncos have lost 10/10 times especailly since 2019. Once the Broncos scored but failed to convert on the 2-point conversion, I was worried Minnesota was going to win the game with a walk-off field goal because we Broncos fans have seen that too many times in the Fangio regime and quite a bit last year as well. The Broncos' defense made sure that history didn't repeat itself and had the Vikings go backward as Dobbs had to find a way to convert a 4th and 25 to keep the game going which he did not. Winning these nip-and-tuck ball games is the first step to rebuilding that winning foundation this team has had for a long time and Sean Payton deserves a lot of credit for providing the building blocks for it.
