Why Do People Hate Russ?

Russell Wilson has not played well at all this season. According to the QBR stat in ESPN, he is ranked 30th out of the 32 starting quarterbacks. His QB R is a 32.3. For context, the average is 50. So he has been well below average in terms of his play on the field. The criticism of him should be about how he is playing on the field. However, that has not been the case this year as people have attacked his personality at times and I just do not think that is fair. The media should be able to critique a player's game without making their judgments personal. I get that Wilson is corny and he says weird things here and there but we seriously live in a world where Russell Wilson gets more hate than Deshaun Watson. Watson has more than 25 women accusing him of sexual assault but the NFL world loves him because he doesn't make cheesy Dangerwhich commercials. I have a few examples. After the Broncos lost to the Colts on Thursday night, in which a game where Russell Wilson was awful throwing 2 interceptions with no TDs, Good Morning Football host Kyle Brandt called Russell Wilson a poser. He stated that Russ has a fake personality and acts too much like a celebrity. What does that have to do with his play on the field? And earlier this week, Russell Wilson has his birthday. His wife Ciara threw a party for him and about half the team showed up. But of course, the media had to write that in a negative connotation and say "only" have the team showed up and make it seem like Russ lost the locker room. These are grown men who have a life of their own. Half the team showing up is a pretty decent number considering how big a football team is. It is very frustrating to see how the media has been treating Russ. Yes, he has had a bad year football-wise. Otherwise, from the outside looking in, he seems like a very nice guy. He has visited the children's hospital every Tuesday for years now. You cannot fake that level of niceness. I will still be rooting for Russ and hopes he can still do some good things in this latter stretch in the season and hopefully start vs Baltimore.
