Suspended Cameraman. Really NFL?!!

I love the NFL. I love the entertainment aspect of it. However, I am mind-boggled on the business side of it and the situation I am about to explain is a constant reminder to myself that the NFL runs a cold business.

Kevin Fitzgibbons has been a cameraman for the Miami Dolphins since 2022. He did his camerawork for the Dolphins' home games. Fitzgibbons, in a recent Instagram reel, talked about his journey to getting his opportunity to work with the NFL and how he lost his credentials. He started as a cameraman for his school's basketball team as a Junior in High School and developed the skill of social media networking in 2017 opening the door for him to meet players such as Antonio Brown, Saquan Barkley, and Tyreek Hill. He is a student at the University of Miami and after Hill got traded to the Dolphins, he and Tyreek Hill began working together he applied for a job with the NFL in 2022 and he got it as a cameraman for the Miami Dolphins. However, he got suspended because of an incident that took place in week 6 when Tyreek Hill scored a TD vs the Panthers. After Hill scored the TD, he went to surprise Fitzgibbons as he took his phone and did a backflip while recording it on the phone which many fans found to be a very cool moment. However, that moment is what got Fitzgibbons suspended. The NFL justified the suspension by saying that Fitzgibbons did not remain disciplined and should not have jumped during the incident.

That is the gist of it. His explanation will probably be more clear and if you want to hear it, the link to his Instagram account will be posted below. Here's my response to all of this: It is ridiculous to suspend someone over something so silly like this. He had one of the best players in the league, who he knows very well, take his phone and do a backflip with it while holding the phone and recording it as well. If I was Fitzgibbons, I would be so hyped because it's such a cool moment to be a part of and I have no idea how the NFL expects him to remain stoic during a moment like that. I don't know how he is as a cameraman but he has been there since 2022 so that means he is pretty good at his job. If he is doing his job well then why does it matter that he "breaks" protocol for a few seconds? I genuinely do not get it. This is his main method of making money and providing for himself and the NFL just took it away from him because he was being human and got too excited. Thankfully, Tyreek Hill said he would pay Fitzgibbon's salary continue to work with him, and make sure he is not out of a job.

I hope for the best for Fitzgibbons and hope he can land another job that he loves to do whether it be with the NFL or not.
