The Broncos are going through possibly their darkest days as a franchise. This franchise has had one back-to-back losing season since the beginning of its existence. They are about to have their 6th straight losing season. The culture of winning has faded. The Broncos are no longer one of the golden standards in the NFL. Instead, they have now become the laughingstock of the NFL. Losing is one thing but getting thoroughly outplayed by the 3-win Carolina Panthers is another. The Broncos once again could not get anything going offensively mustering up just 3 points for the first 56 minutes of this ball game. Russ was pedestrian all day putting up 142 yards with one TD on 19/35 passing. This is including the garbage time TD drive so his numbers are a little inflated. Congrats to Russel Wilson on reaching 300 TDs for his career tying John Elway for 13th all-time. He has had an illustrious career thus far and this one down season should not take that away from him. Let's look at Russ's season as a whole. He has 8 TDs and 5 INTs on the season. He has not been good this year but I am not ready to give up on him. He has been without arguably his number 1 receiver all year in Tim Patrick and has missed Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler for half of the season and has dealt with an injury himself. These are not excuses, this info provides context for Russ's down year. I feel like Russ is more of a symptom of the issue rather than the source of the issue. To me, the source is Nathaniel Hackett. Yes, I know he is a lovable and fun guy but it seems like he has no grasp on the team and their situation. As everyone knows Mike Purcell was seen visibly yelling at Russell Wilson. Many speculated that Purcell was frustrated with Russ but Russ stated it was more of an act of firing him up. Either way, when Hackett was asked about the incident, he said he didn't see it happen and you can see he is not even 5 feet away from the incident. So either he is a liar or he is extremely oblivious. Either way, those are not qualities I would want in my leader. It seems unlikely that he will be fired during the season but I will be beyond shocked if he is not let go immediately after this season ends. Injuries, poor coaching, and poor offensive line play have plagued this team since 2017. Something needs to change and hopefully, George Paton is ready with his next move.
