Finishing Strong!

The Broncos shut out the Rams to end the preseason 41-0! Here are my key takeaways from the game:

  • Albert O Still May Have a Future Here!

Was not able to see the game but saw that Albert O had 7 catches for 109 yards and a TD. I heard he was doing very well blocking as well. Looking at the highlights, he made some nice catches, especially in the 4th quarter where he made a sweet one-handed grab down the left sideline in the red zone. This performance for sure will get him on the 53-man roster and the TE tandem of Dulcich and Albert O can be deadly for opposing linebackers.

  • Essang Bassey Breakout?

Essang Bassey has had a tremendous preseason logging 3 interceptions, one in each game. If he can take the next step at the corner, this secondary can remain deadly even with the departure of Ronal Darby. It is a young secondary but it is loaded with talent which excites me a lot as a fan. His play has been a pleasant surprise.

  • Rookies Impressive!

Jaleel Mclaughlin once again scored another TD this preseason making that a total of 4 in these 3 games. He had an impressive 4.8 yards per carry on 10 attempts as well. The Broncos certainly have found a diamond in the rough by signing this kid who somehow went undrafted. Next up Marvin Mimms. He didn't play a whole lot but quickly displayed that big play ability making 2 catches for 51 yards and the team will need him to make big plays all season as the WR depth in this team has deteriorated.

  • Stidham Slingin it

Stidham made some nice throws this game ending the game with 17/28 for 236 yards and 1 TD with no turnovers. He has earned the QB2 spot for this season and this performance certainly has allowed me to breathe easier knowing he is a capable backup who can come in and play solid football in case anything happens to Russ.

Yes, it is just preseason so it is still hard to evaluate how the players above will do against starters in the regular season but good performances don't happen by accident and it's so encouraging seeing players make play after play, especially in the final preseason game. It really feels like we're going into the regular season with some momentum and I can't wait!!
