Color Rush!

The Broncos are riding Mile High as they go back home after dominating the Dallas Cowboys to face the Eagles. The Broncos must build on their momentum and keep their foot on the gas and not overlook a 3-6 Eagles team that has played better than their record has indicated as they took the Chargers rights down to the wire last week. The difference between 6-4 and 5-5 could be huge especially since the AFC West is extremely tight this year. They will also bust out their Color Rush Uniforms on week 10 for the first time this season. Here are my 2 keys to the game for a Broncos Victory and provide one things that still worries me.

Keys:

1. Take Advantage of Redzone!

The Eagles defense has given up 16 Passing TDs on the year which is ranked 25th and have given up a QB rating of 104.8. They are, however, slightly above average in terms of passing yards allowed per game at 235.7 yards per game which ranks 12th. They don't give up a ton of yardage but give up passing TDs when it matters most meaning they are not a great red zone defense as they are ranked 27th in redzone defense TD percentage giving up nearly 70% meaning 70% of the time the opponent gets into the redzone, they are able to punch it in for 6. They also give up almost 120 yards on the ground per game giving up 4.0 yards per carry so the Broncos should also not have many problems driving down the filed between the 20s. Denver is ranked only 22nd in terms of TD percentage in redzone for the season. However, they have gotten much better at punching it in after crossing the 20 the last 3 games with an 85% TD rate. Denver needs to punch it in especially early in the game and enable the defense to play at their best and be able to dominate the Eagles similar to what they did last week. The last thing the Broncos want is a close ball game in the 4th quarter because they only kicked FGs and at that point it is anyone's ball game and under the Vic Fangio era, they have lost many games they should not have in last minute situations dating back to 2019.

2. Start Fast and Dominate Time Of Possession Again!

The Broncos won Time of Possession(TOP) 41 to 19 vs Dallas and they are going to need a similar output this week. When playing against a run first team like the Eagles, who average 136.6 yards per game, it is important to not allow them to impose their will early in the game and set the tone and run the opponent off the field. The Broncos defense can be run on and it showed even last week as the Cowboys averaged near 4.5 yards per carry but since they were behind for most of the game and had the ball only a third of the time, they started pressing. The biggest key against a run first offense is to get a lead. That will force the eagles to throw more than they want to which was what they did a lot early in the season which is part of the reason they struggled mightily on offense until they started shifting their offense to a run first offense leading to better production not only from the running backs, but from Hurts as well. Staying ahead will enable Jonathan Cooper and Malik Reed to get after Hurts allowing them to stay aggressive and it is important the defense also keep the Eagles in obvious passing situations. Overall, it's a simple game plan but it's just a matter of execution from the players.

Still Worried:

3. Too Many Sacks Taken

Teddy Bridgewater was sacked another 4 times in the win vs the Cowboys but no one really talked about it since Denver came out with the win. It is hard to uncover whether it is Teddy holding the ball too long or the Offensive line missing assignments but something must change because too many times the Broncos were in second on long vs Dallas. Fortunately Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon were able to pick up good yardage on 2nd down leading to 3rd and manageable which was a big part of the Broncos being good on 3rd down once again going 8/15. However, relying on 12-13 yard runs on 2nd and 17 or 18 is not a sustainable recipe and whether it is Teddy or the O line, they must fix this issue immediately because it is only going to be a recipe for disaster against good defenses.

I'm hopeful the Broncos will take care of business vs the Eagles and go into their bye 6-4 ready for a playoff push starting with their first game vs the LA Chargers. Let's go!

Predictions:

27-17 Broncos

Teddy: 250 yards and 2TDs no ints

Melvin: and Javonte 150 yards and a TD combined

Defense: 2 Sacks 1 Turnover
