The Broncos will be heading to Miami rocking their Orange Uni's on an early Sunday game. Denver is looking to avoid a 0-3 hole while Miami is searching for that 3-0 start. The odds are heavily stacked as the Broncos are 6.5-point underdogs. Despite these teams having flipped records, I believe it will be a close game and Denver can maybe even pull off the upset.
Despite the Dolphins being 2-0, they have won 2 close games, and that goes the same for the 0-2 Broncos who have lost their first 2 games by 3 points combined. Denver should be able to exploit the run defense of Miami as they have given up 160.5 yards per game on the ground. Most of them were against the Chargers as they were much better vs. the Pats but the Pats do not have much talent at running back. Austin Ekeler was able to have a field day vs. the Dolphins and it feels like Javonte Williams is primed to have a big game as he has had very mediocre games to start the season. On the flip side, the Broncos pass defense has been very porous and will be facing the best passing offense in the league through 2 weeks as the Dolphins have averaged 355 yards on the air so far. Tyreek Hill is an absolute game breaker and Denver is going to have to play a lot of 2 high safety to make sure he doesn't go loose. Last week the Bronco were very blitz-heavy vs. the Commanders. Vance Joseph is a very aggressive play-caller as he is normally top-half in the league on blitz percentage. It cannot be the case this week and it is up to Denver's front 4 to generate pressure vs Tua. If he gets comfortable back there it is going to be a long day for the defense. The task is going to be even harder knowing that Justin Simmons will be missing this game as the Broncos are already thin on safety after losing Caden Sterns for the season.
Russ will have to play 2 halves of good football to beat this team. The Dolphins are certainly going to put 25+ on the board. Can Denver keep up? If Russ can keep a cool head the entire game and not let mistakes dictate the way he plays, they have a shot because the Broncos' offense has been spectacular in the first half and I already mentioned in my previous post that they lead the league in points per possession. This team has big play capability and I believe can go blow for blow with Miami but it's going to be a matter of what they do in the pivotal moments of the game. Can they make winning plays? I believe they can and Denver will have the upset of the weekend as they go into Miami and beat the Dolphins. It feels a little bit like a trap game where Denver will catch Miami off guard and be able to jump out to an early lead. Only this time I believe they will hold on to the lead. I don't see a Russell Wilson and Sean Payton-led team making the same mistake 3 weeks in a row.
Prediction: 30-27 Broncos
