2022 Broncos: A Comedy Special

Yes, I know Bronco fans want to turn the page to the new season that will be happening in a few months but I thought it would be kind of fun just to relive the bloopers/lowlights of what happened this last season. Just for fun:

  1. Let's Ride

I'm convinced this catchphrase cursed our entire season. Hearing Russell Wilson say that after every game knowing full and well that the ride collapsed before it even started was almost as infuriating as watching the Broncos' clock management. Please don't bring this catchphrase back next year. Don't even have one next year. I'm not going to lie, the memes of us were pretty funny.

2. Clock Management

This atrocity was evident in the very first game of the season when literally every snap the play clock hit 0. At least that is what it felt like. Hackett put on an absolute masterclass with his clock management that Broncos fans started counting down to make sure the Broncos staff and players knew the clock was dwindling. Then later Hackett hired a babysitter to help him manage time. Nice. I mean it worked because after they hired Jerry Rosburg, the clock management was better. Turns out that not only was Rosburg good for clock management, but he was also a better coach than Hackett. Just look up the last 2 games of the season and compare those 2 games to the rest. I don't think Rosburg did anything special. He just knew how to tell time. A very underrated characteristic of a coach.

3. The Offense

The offense was just atrocious. Like historically bad. They averaged 16.9 points which was last. They were worse than the Texans. The Texans??!!! The offense was also so vanilla. It's not like it was turnovers galore because the offense did a decent job keeping the ball out of harm's way. They did too good of a job keeping the ball out of harm's way. "3 and out" was the phrase of the season. They won a game 11-10 vs the 49ers. Every defensive player had to have been fuming. Also, how did we beat the 49ers??? When a Broncos playmaker made a play, the applause was similar to that of when a celebrity made a cameo on a Disney Channel show.

4. Injuries

Literally every year.

5. Melvin Gordon

I did feel for Melvin this year because he was getting a lot of hate that was unwarranted from fans. They were attacking his personality which I thought wasn't cool but oh my goodness he became unplayable. Melvin's game this season was breathtaking. No, every time got a carry the fans had to hold their breath. He was depriving us of oxygen. It was unsafe for him to be a Denver Bronco.

6. Empower on Fire

Empower Field caught on fire before the season and many joked it was Russ cooking. We then later realized it was not a joke as he portrayed to us fans that he was incapable of cooking anything this season. Every once in a while he made a good bowl of cereal but for the rest of the season, he couldn't even find the spatula. He ended up using his hand to flip the burger patties on the stove and would end up burning them horribly. You don't believe me? Then tell me with a straight face that Russell Wilson played the entire 2022 season with a healthy right hand. I dare you.

7. A Very Merry Christmas

The Broncos got curb stomped by the Rams 51-17 and made Baker Mayfield look like the second coming of Jesus and Jesus's birthday. This was the low point. This was probably the worst loss I have ever seen since Super Bowl 48. I honestly cannot blame kids for believing in Santa. I believed the Broncos were going to win on Christmas. I should have known better. Poor Tony Romo the entire time was trying his best to be positive. Jim Nantz and Tony Romo next season, I heard, will go on strike if they are told they have to commentate a Broncos game in 2023. On second thought, Jim Nantz may just retire. The Buccaneers looked at this game and convinced themselves that Baker was going to replace Brady in 2023.

Obviously, these are jokes. I still have tons of respect for Hackett and hope he does well in NY as an OC once again with Rodgers. I'm happy for Melvin for winning a ring with KC. He went through a lot this year. I know Russ will be better next year with Payton at HC and hopefully a more healthy team. Onto 2023!
